What is BOYS II PLANET?
BOYS II PLANET is Mnet’s latest K-pop survival show, launched to create a global boy group with an 8-member lineup under a 5-year contract. Initially planned as two separate programs—Planet K for Korean and global trainees and Planet C for Chinese contestants—the show merged into a single narrative to debut one cohesive group. With 154 trainees from South Korea, China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, and beyond, the competition is fiercer than ever.
Premiere Dates and How to Watch
- Planet K: Premiered on July 17, 2025.
- Planet C: Premiered on July 18, 2025.
- Where to Watch: Stream on Mnet Plus, YouTube, or follow updates on X.
The finale is scheduled for September 25, 2025, where fans will see the final 8 members chosen through a star-based elimination system. Voting is open globally, with rumored ratios favoring Korean and Chinese votes (40% each, 20% global).
Meet the Contestants
BOYS II PLANET features 154 trainees, including familiar faces from groups like BLITZERS, BOY STORY, DKB, DRIPPIN, MCND, The Wind, VERIVERY, WEi, and WHIB. Notable contestants include former Boys Planet participants like Seowon (ex-NINE.i), Cai Jinxin, Xuan Hao, and Dang Dong Hai. Applications poured in from 105 countries, doubling the applicant pool from Boys Planet.
Fans on X are buzzing about performances, such as BOY STORY members Hanyu, Xinlong, and Zihao covering Stray Kids’ “Back Door” and emotional moments like contestant Anxin’s tearful performance.
Mentors and Signal Song
The show boasts an impressive lineup of mentors, including Lim Han-byeol, Hyolyn, Back Koo-young, and Justhis. Planet K features Lee Seok-hoon, Kinky, and Kany, while Planet C includes Kim Jae-joong, Kep1er’s Xiaoting, and Jayrick. Special masters like Sung Hanbin and Zhang Hao from ZEROBASEONE add star power.
The signal song, “Hola Solar”, was unveiled on June 12, 2025, via a live showcase on YouTube and TikTok, captivating fans with its catchy beat and vibrant choreography.
Controversies and Format Changes
The show hasn’t been without drama. Allegations of rigging and favoritism surfaced pre-premiere, with claims about contestant Kim Geon Woo’s alleged bullying sparking heated debates. Mnet is reportedly reviewing legal implications. The decision to merge Planet K and Planet C into one group has also raised concerns about fairness, particularly for Planet C trainees who may face reduced screen time or voting disadvantages.
Why BOYS II PLANET is a Must-Watch
With a diverse pool of trainees, high-profile mentors, and global voting, BOYS II PLANET is poised to shape the future of K-pop. The show’s Planet Day event on June 14, 2025, in Seoul gave fans a chance to connect with contestants, boosting excitement.
