UNIS will officially conclude its activities as an eight-member group on September 26, bringing its planned two-and-a-half-year journey to an end.

F&F Entertainment announced the decision through its official social media channels on September 22. According to the company, the members’ exclusive management contracts will expire on September 26, exactly two years and six months after the group’s March 2024 debut.

The agency said it had continuously discussed the contract period and the members’ future direction with them. After “sufficient consultation,” both sides decided to complete UNIS’s official full-group activities according to the originally scheduled contract period.

The announcement arrived just one day before the release of the group’s new digital single, Milky Way, transforming what had initially been promoted as another comeback into UNIS’s final song together.

‘Milky Way’ Becomes UNIS’s Farewell Single

Milky Way is scheduled for release on September 23 at 6 p.m. KST, only three days before the group’s contracts expire.

When the single was first announced, F&F Entertainment presented it as a continuation of the momentum created by UNIS’s remake of “Sky, Land and Stars,” also known by its Korean title “Haneul Ttang Byeol Ttang.”

There was no public indication in the initial comeback announcement that Milky Way would be the group’s final release.

That timing has added emotional weight to the song before fans have even had time to fully experience it. A title that suggests distance, light and something visible across an enormous space now carries the meaning of a farewell.

F&F Entertainment’s official release notice confirms that all eight members participated in the single.

The Contract Was Always Designed to Last Two and a Half Years

Although the confirmation was painful for fans, UNIS’s contract expiration was not the result of a sudden cancellation.

The group was formed through the SBS survival program Universe Ticket, which aired from November 2023 to January 2024. The competition was created to select eight members for a project group with a fixed contract lasting two years and six months.

Jin Hyeonju, Nana, Gehlee Dangca, Kotoko, Bang Yunha, Elisia, Oh Yoona and Lim Seowon were chosen for the final lineup. They officially debuted on March 27, 2024, with their first mini album, WE UNIS, led by “SUPERWOMAN.”

The September 26 expiration date therefore reflects the original project-group structure rather than an early termination.

However, the agency’s statement confirms that discussions about extending the group’s activities did take place. The members and company ultimately decided not to continue UNIS as a complete group beyond the agreed period.

F&F Carefully Avoided Announcing the Members’ Retirement

Several Korean reports have described the announcement as UNIS’s “disbandment,” but the agency used more specific language.

F&F Entertainment stated that UNIS would “conclude official activities as a complete group.” It did not say that the members were leaving entertainment or ending their careers.

Instead, the company referred to each member standing at a “new starting point” and continuing to pursue her dreams in her respective place.

That distinction matters.

The September 26 conclusion applies to UNIS’s official full-group activities under F&F Entertainment. The agency has not yet provided detailed plans for the individual members, their future companies or the possibility of them appearing together again.

For now, fans know that the established UNIS promotional structure will end. What comes next for each of the eight members remains open.

UNIS Achieved a Career Milestone With ‘SWICY’

UNIS’s relatively short career still produced a significant milestone.

In April 2025, the group earned its first music-show victory with “SWICY,” the title track from its second mini album of the same name. UNIS defeated nominees including NCT WISH, Mark, izna and 82MAJOR on MBC M’s Show Champion.

The members became emotional during the encore as they thanked EverAfter, the group’s official fandom, for helping them achieve their first win just over a year after debut.

The achievement demonstrated that UNIS had developed beyond its survival-show introduction. The group was building an identity through bright concepts, accessible pop songs and the contrasting personalities of its multinational lineup.

Its Korean releases included “SUPERWOMAN,” “Curious,” “SWICY,” “Spring Rain” and “Dream of Girls.”

UNIS Also Built a Visible International Following

UNIS entered the industry with an unusually international lineup that included members from South Korea, Japan and the Philippines.

That composition helped the group connect with fans across several markets, particularly in Southeast Asia and Japan. Elisia and Gehlee became prominent points of connection for Filipino fans, while Nana and Kotoko supported the group’s expansion in Japan.

In July 2026, UNIS released its first Japanese mini album, UNI☆Sparkle!. The album debuted at No. 4 on the Oricon Daily Album Chart and entered Billboard Japan’s Top Album Sales chart at No. 15.

It also reached No. 1 on the iTunes J-pop Albums chart in Canada and the Philippines while charting in countries including the United States, Germany, Singapore, France and Australia.

Those results showed that the group’s international appeal remained active during the final months of its contract.

That is one reason the conclusion may feel especially abrupt to fans. UNIS was still releasing music, promoting on television and recording new international chart results when its final date was announced.

F&F Entertainment Thanks EverAfter for the Journey

In its statement, F&F Entertainment thanked the members for creating “countless stages and precious moments” with sincerity and passion.

The agency also credited EverAfter for making the group’s journey possible.

“Although their official activities together as UNIS will come to an end, we will sincerely support the members as they stand at new starting points, continue pursuing their dreams in their respective places and grow further,” the company said.

It asked fans to continue supporting the eight members as they begin new challenges outside the group’s current structure.

A Short Career That Did Not Feel Incomplete

Two and a half years is a brief period in an industry where standard idol contracts can extend for seven years.

UNIS nevertheless moved through several distinct stages during that time. The members transitioned from survival-show contestants to recording artists, earned their first music-show trophy, entered the Japanese market and developed a fandom that followed eight performers from different backgrounds.

The conclusion does not erase that progress.

It also does not necessarily determine how successful the members can become individually. Project groups are built around temporary contracts, but the visibility, experience and fan relationships created during that period can follow members into new groups, solo careers, acting or other areas of entertainment.

For EverAfter, Milky Way will now be heard differently from the way it was initially announced.

It is no longer simply UNIS’s next digital single. It is the final song released before eight members who entered the industry together begin moving toward separate destinations.
