T.o.p Rules Out Bigbang Reunion During 20th Anniversary Tour

The former BIGBANG member confirmed that he will remain a solo artist while continuing to support G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung.

T.O.P has responded to BIGBANG’s 20th anniversary world tour, offering his support while making one point unmistakably clear: he does not plan to rejoin the group onstage.

The rapper and actor, whose real name is Choi Seung-hyun, discussed the tour during an interview broadcast by Japan’s TV Asahi Channel 1 on September 12. The special also featured footage from his Japanese fan meeting, “Re:Union.”

When asked how he felt after learning that BIGBANG would begin its first world tour in nine years, T.O.P gave a respectful but firm answer.

“I will continue my activities as a solo artist,” he said. “Although I will not perform with them on the same stage, I will always support the BIGBANG members’ activities and music.”

Support Without a Reunion

T.O.P’s statement is likely to disappoint fans who hoped the group’s 20th anniversary might lead to a surprise reunion.

However, his words do not suggest conflict with G-Dragon, Taeyang or Daesung. Instead, they draw a careful line between supporting his former members and returning to BIGBANG.

The distinction matters. T.O.P did not leave the possibility deliberately open or hint at future negotiations. He described himself as a solo artist whose career now follows a separate path.

At the same time, he acknowledged the group’s new chapter with warmth rather than distance.

T.O.P debuted with BIGBANG in 2006 and became known for his deep voice, distinctive rap style and unconventional artistic image.

His career was interrupted after he was prosecuted for marijuana use in 2016. He received a 10-month prison sentence suspended for two years in 2017 and subsequently stepped away from regular entertainment activities.

T.O.P returned to BIGBANG’s music in April 2022 through the digital single “Still Life.” Despite participating in the song, he confirmed in 2023 that he had withdrawn from the group.

During an interview promoting Netflix’s “Squid Game 2” in January 2025, T.O.P explained that he felt responsible for causing significant damage to BIGBANG. He also said that his guilt made it difficult to contact the other members freely.

His latest interview indicates that his decision remains unchanged, but the focus has shifted. Instead of speaking only about regret, T.O.P is now emphasizing the solo career he intends to continue.

BIGBANG Celebrates 20 Years as Three

BIGBANG is currently conducting its “XX: COSMOS” world tour with G-Dragon, Taeyang and Daesung.

The tour began with three concerts at Goyang Stadium from August 21 to 23. It marks the group’s first large-scale world tour since 2017 and includes performances across North America, Europe, Asia and Australia.

The announced schedule continues through February 2027, ending with two concerts at Kaohsiung National Stadium. Multiple early dates in Goyang, Oakland and East Rutherford were listed as sold out on BIGBANG’s official tour website.

The tour celebrates the group’s full musical legacy while presenting BIGBANG’s current identity as a trio.

T.O.P is not denying the years he spent with BIGBANG, nor is he withholding support from the members. He is simply choosing not to return to the same stage.
