The long, long wait is over as James Reece has returned on Amazon Prime Video. "The Terminal List" Season 1 saw Chris Pratt back in action as opposed to being his often comedic self, taking on the lead role in this adaptation of the best-selling novel series of the same name from author Jack Carr. Now, Season 2 has arrived more than four years after the first season premiered. For fans of the show, it's better late than never.
The series centers on Navy SEAL Commander James Reece (Pratt) as he battles unknown conspiratorial forces seeking to upend the world order. Season 2 is based on Carr's book "True Believer." As for what viewers can expect this time around? The synopsis for the new season reads as follows:
The psychological revenge thriller of Season 1 opens up into a globe-trotting espionage thriller taking Reece across the Indian Ocean, Southern and Northern Africa, the Middle East, and Europe. Joined by returning fan favorites like "Raife Hastings" (Tom Hopper), "Katie Buranek" (Constance Wu), "Mohammed Farooq" (Dar Salim), "Jules Landry" (Luke Hemsworth) and newcomers like "Freddy Strain" (Gabriel Luna), Reece will uncover a conspiracy that reaches from Moscow to Langley and ties into his own family's history.
So, why the long wait? Well, for one, Pratt has been busy. He starred in big movies like "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3," "The Super Mario Bros. Movie," and Netflix's most expensive movie ever "The Electric State." For what it's worth, Pratt did reprise his role as Reece in the spin-off "The Terminal List: Dark Wolf," which largely centered on Taylor Kitsch's Ben Edwards. It dropped on Prime Video last year.
The Terminal List Season 2 is finally here after a four-year wait
Chris Pratt also starred in a maligned sci-fi movie that stole the box office crown from "Avatar: Fire and Ash," namely "Mercy," which was also produced by Amazon. All of this to say, Amazon had to wait for its main star. In a press release, Pratt had this to say about "The Terminal List" Season 2:
"This season is a love letter to the special operations community. I'm incredibly proud of the journey we went on and what we were able to put on screen. It was a monumental effort by a lot of people over the course of many years, and I think you can feel that commitment in every frame. Yes, it's an action thriller, but there's also real beauty and poetry in it. At its heart, this season is dedicated to the men and women who do this work—the people who operate in the shadows, make extraordinary sacrifices, and rarely ask for recognition. We wanted to honor them and get it right. I couldn't be more proud of what we made."
While it's good for fans that the show is back, it's still illustrative an issue that plagues streaming these days. Long waits between seasons can be rough. No longer are we guaranteed new seasons annually. "Game of Thrones" found a way to fix modern television's most annoying problem, scheduling different spin-offs annually. But for most shows, it just requires patience.
"The Terminal List" Season 1 was dubbed an "offensively bad military thriller" by /Film at the time. Still, it was incredibly popular. Here's hoping the sophomore season serves as an improvement.
