Jang Dong-yoon is getting married—and the story behind his bride has quickly become one of the most interesting parts of the announcement.

On August 25, Jang Dong-yoon confirmed that he will marry fellow actress Kim Seung-yoon in October. His agency, BH Entertainment, also confirmed the news, saying the couple will hold a small private ceremony with their families.

Jang Dong-yoon described his fiancée simply as someone he had been with for a long time. In a handwritten message to fans, he said the two had spent years getting to know and understand each other before deciding to become “each other’s closest support.” The announcement came without a public dating reveal beforehand.

But once Kim Seung-yoon’s identity was confirmed, fans began looking back at their careers and discovered that the future married couple had already built a surprisingly long creative history together.

Who is Kim Seung-yoon?

Kim Seung-yoon, born in 1997, is an actress who studied film at Konkuk University.

She made her television debut in KBS2’s The Tale of Nokdu in 2019, a drama that also happened to star Jang Dong-yoon as its male lead, Jeon Nok-du.

It is an intriguing connection in retrospect, although neither actor has publicly said that the drama was where their romantic relationship began.

Kim gradually built a career across television and independent cinema, appearing in dramas including The Cursed, Crash and For Eagle Brothers, while also taking roles in films such as Hong Sang-soo’s In Water and A Traveler’s Needs.

But her most interesting credits now may be the projects she made with Jang behind the camera.

She starred in Jang Dong-yoon’s first film as a director

Jang expanded beyond acting in 2023 when he wrote and directed the short film Please Be My Ear.

And Kim Seung-yoon was right there.

According to the Seoul Independent Film Festival, Jang directed and wrote the 21-minute film while also appearing in it, with Kim Seung-yoon starring opposite him. She was additionally credited as an assistant director.

The short tells the story of a man who receives a message from his ex-girlfriend and discovers a baby she has left behind.

It marked Jang’s first official step into directing.

Two years later, he chose Kim again.

Then she became the lead of his first feature film

Jang’s first feature-length film as a director, The Yeast (Nuruk), was completed in 2024, screened at festivals and received its Korean theatrical release on April 15, 2026.

Kim played the central character Da-seul, an 18-year-old girl from a family that runs a traditional makgeolli brewery.

When Da-seul becomes convinced that the brewery’s special nuruk the fermentation starter essential to its distinctive flavor has disappeared, she sets out to find it.

Jang not only directed the film but also wrote the screenplay.

At an April press event, Kim spoke about what it was like being directed by another actor, explaining that Jang’s instructions were especially precise and intuitive because he understood performance from an actor’s perspective.

It was their second director-actor collaboration.

And in both cases, Kim was one of the central performers.

That timeline makes their relationship particularly unusual.

Their public professional paths first crossed on The Tale of Nokdu in 2019.

In 2023, Kim starred in Jang’s directorial debut, Please Be My Ear.

Then she led his first feature film, The Yeast. Now, in 2026, they are preparing to get married. What remains private is exactly when their romantic relationship began. Jang has only described Kim as someone he has been with for “a long time,” and neither has released a detailed relationship timeline.

That distinction matters. Their repeated collaborations are confirmed. Speculation about when those professional relationships became romantic is not.

Part of the reaction comes from how quietly the couple maintained their relationship.

He said the decision to marry came after considerable thought and that the couple had grown to understand and cherish each other more deeply over the time they spent together.

BH Entertainment said Jang and Kim plan to marry in October, with only family attending the small worship-style ceremony.
