Why Fans Chose BTS Jin and NMIXX’s Sullyoon as TMA’s First My Star Winners

BTS member Jin and NMIXX’s Sullyoon have become the first winners of a newly created fan-voted prize at the 2026 The Fact Music Awards.

Jin won the male division of the TMA My Star Award, while Sullyoon finished first in the female category. Each artist defeated 19 other finalists during the final voting round, which was conducted through the Fan N Star platform from August 3 to 17.

Unlike categories determined partly through sales, streaming data or professional judging, the My Star Award was decided through fan participation. That makes its first result a direct indication of the two artists’ ability to mobilize dedicated individual fandoms.

Jin stands out in a BTS-heavy field

Jin’s victory came from an unusually competitive male ballot. All seven BTS members advanced to the final round, alongside artists including Lim Young Woong, Lee Chan Won, WOODZ, Stray Kids’ Hyunjin and PLAVE’s Eunho.

Winning against other members of the same globally successful group makes the result especially notable. It reflects the strength of Jin’s individual fanbase while BTS continues to command enormous support as a team.

Jin has built a distinct solo identity through releases including “The Astronaut,” his debut album “Happy” and its follow-up “Echo.” His music has generally emphasized melodic pop and rock influences, giving his solo catalog a recognizable character beyond BTS’s group sound.

The My Star result therefore represents more than general recognition of the BTS name. It shows that fans remain highly organized around Jin’s individual career.

Sullyoon claims the inaugural female prize

Sullyoon secured the female award against a field featuring aespa’s Karina, Winter and Ningning, BLACKPINK’s Jennie, TWICE’s Jihyo, BABYMONSTER’s Ahyeon and fellow NMIXX members Haewon, Jiwoo and Kyujin.

NMIXX had four members in the final, the largest representation by any girl group. Sullyoon’s eventual victory highlights her individual popularity within a category containing established stars from several K-pop generations.

Since debuting with NMIXX in 2022, Sullyoon has attracted attention for her vocals, stage presence and polished visual image. Her position has also been strengthened through activities outside group promotions, including her work as a music-show host.

The award arrives as NMIXX continues expanding its standing within the competitive girl-group market. The group is also confirmed to perform at the 2026 TMA ceremony, although the organizers have not stated that Jin will attend.

Two more fan votes remain open

While the My Star winners have been decided, voting continues for the Fan N Star Choice Award and the Popularity Award until noon KST on September 7.

BTS and Lee Chan Won led the preliminary group and solo voting, respectively, for the Fan N Star Choice Award. Twenty finalists in each division advanced to the second round, with the eventual leaders receiving trophies.

The Popularity Award is limited to artists included in the ceremony’s performer lineup. Seventeen acts are competing, including NMIXX, RIIZE, ILLIT, ATEEZ, TREASURE, ALLDAY PROJECT, Yena and Lim Young Woong.

TMA returns to Korea with its first Busan ceremony

The ninth The Fact Music Awards will take place at Busan Asiad Main Stadium on September 19. It will be the ceremony’s first edition in Busan and its return to South Korea following events in Osaka in 2024 and Macao in 2025.

The announced lineup includes NMIXX, RIIZE, RESCENE, xikers, IDID, ILLIT, ALPHA DRIVE ONE, EVAN, ATEEZ, ALLDAY PROJECT, Lim Young Woong, Yena, CORTIS, CLOSE YOUR EYES, KiiiKiii, TREASURE and tripleS.

Before the ceremony begins, however, Jin and Sullyoon have already secured a place in its history. As the inaugural My Star winners, they have set the first benchmark for a category built entirely around the organizing power of fans.
