The global cultural phenomenon BTS is set to make history in North America as they receive an official invitation to the Mexican Presidential Palace. Ahead of their highly anticipated “ARIRANG” world tour stops in Mexico City, the group will meet with the nation’s top leadership in a rare display of diplomatic honors for a musical act.

On May 6 (local time), President Claudia Sheinbaum personally announced during her regular morning press conference, “Mañanera,” that BTS has been formally invited to the Presidential Palace. In a special gesture, the President revealed plans to open the palace balcony so the group can greet the citizens of Mexico City directly. President Sheinbaum praised the group’s artistry, stating that their music “always conveys messages of friendship, peace, and love.”

A “Historic Moment” with Massive Economic Stakes

President Sheinbaum had previously hailed the confirmation of BTS’s Mexico City residency as a “historic moment” for the nation’s youth. The scale of the “BTS Effect” is not just cultural but heavily economic. According to the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce, the group’s three-day residency is projected to generate an economic impact of approximately $107.5 million (approx. 155.7 billion won) for the city.

The Unrivaled King of Streaming in Mexico

The presidential invitation is backed by staggering data that confirms BTS as the undisputed leaders of the Mexican music market:

  • Global Hub: Mexico is currently the fifth-largest market for K-pop worldwide according to Spotify.
  • Streaming Dominance: BTS is the most-streamed artist in the country. Remarkably, 8 out of the top 10 most-played K-pop albums in Mexico belong to BTS.
  • City of ARMY: Mexico City holds the record for being the #1 city in the world for streaming BTS music on Spotify.
  • The Dynamite Standard: Their hit “Dynamite” remains the most-streamed K-pop song in Mexican history.

Sold Out Stadium Residency

BTS is scheduled to perform at the Estadio GNP Seguros on May 7, 9, and 10. All three dates sold out instantly upon release, paralyzing ticketing servers and reaffirming their status as the world’s premier touring act. Big Hit Music noted that this presidential visit and the massive stadium success highlight the “unrivaled influence” the group holds in the Latin American market.
