10 Best Dc Movie Post-credits Scenes Of All Time, Ranked

For decades now, it feels like superhero movies need to have some sort of mid or post-credits scene as a final gag or a setup for a franchise's future. "X-Men: The Last Stand" had one of the first superhero post-credits stingers, and the Marvel Cinematic Universe has popularized this tradition ever since 2008's "Iron Man." DC has started to employ this storytelling tactic too, though not at the same frequency or memorable highs as the best Marvel post-credits scenes. That said, there are some fun stingers in movies based on DC properties to be had and we're rounding up the best of the bunch here.

Just like our rankings for the Marvel movies, we're listing both mid and post-credits scenes here as eligible for inclusion. We're also keeping this list strictly to theatrical projects, as opposed to television shows with post-credits scenes like "Peacemaker." Again, DC movies aren't as prolific or successful with their use of post-credits scenes, but there are some standouts from across its cinematic history.

Based on what we do have, these are the 10 best DC movie post-credits scenes of all time ranked.

Before James Gunn joined Peter Safran to forge a vision for DC Studios as its co-president, he wrote and directed 2021's "The Suicide Squad." Providing something of a relaunch for the DC Universe's riff on "The Dirty Dozen," the movie introduced a (mostly) new set of antiheroes and supervillains vying for redemption. This includes Weasel (Sean Gunn), a human-sized anthropomorphic rodent with a feral demeanor attributed to the murder of 27 children. It's also revealed that Weasel apparently can't swim and he's presumed dead after being dropped into the sea as part of his top-secret deployment.

The movie's mid-credits scene reveals that Weasel survives his drowning after washing up on shore and flees into the jungle once he regains consciousness. While assumed to be a standalone gag, Weasel does resurface in the animated series "Creature Commandos," making the scene more important than it initially appears. At the same time, it's nice to see the Suicide Squad's most animalistically innocent figure survive, even if he's developed an appetite for kids. Weasel maybe didn't deserve a happy ending, but he deserved better than becoming a waterlogged antihero.

2022's "DC League of Super-Pets" is half-good boy of a movie at best and a strange animal-centric perspective on the DC Universe overall. The movie features a Lex Luthor played by Marc Maron, accompanied by his kryptonite-empowered guinea pig Lulu (Kate McKinnon), as he devises his latest scheme against the heroes. Over the course of the movie, Luthor betrays Lulu before he is trapped in a prison cell with a large window. In the mid-credits scene, Luthor fails to convince passing animals to free him, while Lulu is adopted by Luthor's former assistant Mercy Graves (Maya Erskine).

At the very least, the mid-credits for "DC League of Super-Pets" sees Luthor get his comeuppance and Lulu get her happy ending. After all, both she and Mercy were used and discarded cruelly by Luthor, so they get their second chance together. The scene is also a lot better than the movie's post-credits scene, which teases a showdown between Superman (John Krasinski) and Black Adam (Dwayne Johnson). With this and the similar post-credits scene in "Black Adam" later that year, DC was betting big on a confrontation between the two that never came to pass.

One of the highlights in 2025's "Superman" was Mister Terrific, with the hyper-intelligent superhero memorably played by Edi Gathegi. It's through Terrific's advanced technology that Metropolis begins to recover from the extra-dimensional rift opened by Lex Luthor (Nicholas Hoult). The movie's post-credits scene features Superman (David Corenswet) and Terrific surveying the repair work on a particular building. When Superman teases Terrific that the building isn't quite put back together evenly, an annoyed Terrific storms off.

"Superman" is silly in all the right ways, and that quality extends to the movie's playful post-credits scene. Some of Corenswet's best moments as Superman is seeing how the Man of Steel interacts with other superheroes and the post-credits scene underscores that dynamic. Superman knows just how to get a rise out of the no-nonsense genius superhero, and with the dust having settled, he seizes the opportunity. Hopefully, with several returning DC characters appearing in "Man of Tomorrow," we'll see how Superman plays along with even more heroes.

Speaking of supporting actors stealing the show in DC movies, Mark Strong provided an excellent villain in 2019's "Shazam!" as Doctor Thaddeus Sivana. Absorbing the Seven Deadly Sins, Sivana becomes a threat for the entire Shazamily, with the magical heroes' combined efforts defeating him. Stripped of his powers, Sivana is left alone in a prison cell at the end of the movie. In the movie's mid-credits scene, Sivana is approached by a talking extraterrestrial caterpillar known as Mister Mind, played by the movie's director David F. Sandberg.

Shazam real ones know that, outside of Black Adam, the two biggest supervillains in the hero's rogues' gallery are Doctor Sivana and Mister Mind. To see those two sharing the screen together hints at truly fiendish things afoot for the future for the Shazam family. Of course, as we know years later, nothing came of this alliance or Sivana's villainous unfinished business in the eventual sequel. This actually makes the scene and its follow-up all the funnier, even if that may not have been the original intention.

Despite the previous movie's stinger, the 2023 sequel "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" features a completely different set of primary villains. Instead of a resurgent Sivana and his burgeoning alliance with Mister Mind, the Shazamily battles the daughters of the Titan Atlas. But the movie's post-credits scene proves that the filmmakers haven't completely forgotten about its previously introduced villains, while having fun at their expense. In the scene, Mister Mind approaches the still imprisoned Doctor Sivana once again, who is frustrated that the talking caterpillar hasn't done anything since the last movie.

There is something darkly funny about the acknowledgement that "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" completely ditched what was the presumed direction from the preceding film. That we'll probably not be getting a sequel, as "Fury of the Gods" was a box office bomb, also adds to the humor in Mister Mind's unrealized plans. The scene makes a lot more sense than the mid-credits scene, with Task Force X characters trying to recruit Shazam (Zachary Levi) into the Justice Society of America. "Shazam! Fury of the Gods" may have crashed and burned at the box office, but at least fans got a little more Mister Mind acknowledging his own inactivity.

"Wonder Woman 1984" inadvertently became Gal Gadot's final starring role as the eponymous superhero, though she appeared briefly in subsequent DC projects. One of the most striking things about the movie is the sight of Wonder Woman in golden armor, which she wears for her climactic confrontation against Cheetah (Kristen Wiig). The armor is attributed to belonging to Asteria, the greatest of the Amazon warriors, and it plays a vital role in Diana Prince saving the day. The "Wonder Woman 1984" mid-credits scene reveals that not only is Asteria still alive and quietly helping and inspiring others, but that the legendary Amazon is played by TV's first Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter.

It's always nice seeing comic book movies acknowledge their extensive legacy however they can, especially a character like Wonder Woman, who's been around for over 80 years. Lynda Carter is a vastly important figure in the Wonder Woman legacy, popularizing the character for millions by starring as the superhero in the '70s television series. Carter's inclusion as one of the most respected Amazons and still capable of superheroics is a nice nod and way to close out the movie. From the multiple Green Lanterns and Flashes running around, DC heroes have a generational quality and it's great to see "Wonder Woman 1984" acknowledge that in its own way.

After being introduced in "Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice," Ben Affleck's Batman became something of a Nick Fury figure in the DC Extended Universe. This included recruiting heroes for the eventual Justice League and keeping tabs on nefarious figures around the DCEU, like Amanda Waller (Viola Davis). In 2016's "Suicide Squad," Bruce Wayne agrees to protect Waller from legal repercussions in exchange for files about metahumans to recruit. Before leaving, Wayne warns Waller to shut down Task Force X while Waller tacitly implies she knows Wayne is Batman.

Like several movies on this list, "Suicide Squad" is of middling quality at best, whether or not it's the David Ayer cut, but its stinger is at least intriguing. The scene sets the stage for the following year's "Justice League" while continuing to position Batman's central role in the DCEU. The sequence also proves that Waller is a force to be reckoned with, even when facing the Dark Knight alone. We would've liked to have seen more of Affleck's Batman as a behind-the-scenes architect of the DCEU's superhero community and "Suicide Squad" makes that potential clear.

One villainous partnership that actually did see its cinematic potential fulfilled was the one hinted at in 2018's "Aquaman." Seafaring adversary David Kane (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) creates the supervillain mantle of Black Manta during the movie using Atlantean technology. Though Manta is defeated by Aquaman (Jason Momoa) in their rematch in Italy, he survives and finds a new ally in Stephen Shin (Randall Park). The movie's mid-credits scene has a recovering Kane team up with Shin, promising to take him to Atlantis in return for his help obtaining his revenge against Arthur Curry.

Interestingly, "Aquaman" added Randall Park in reshoots less than a year ahead of its eventual premiere, likely making this scene a last-minute addition. In contrast to many of the previously mentioned scenes on this list, this mid-credits sequence actually has a payoff. We get to see Black Manta and Stephen Shin working together in "Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom" kickstarting the sequel's story. An important scene in setting up a sequel that actually saw the light of day, "Aquaman" delivers upon its mid-credits promise.

James Gunn's "Superman" shines due to Krypto, the loyal Kryptonian canine companion of the Man of Steel. The adorable super-pet saves Superman several times over the course of the movie and even gets the last word against Lex Luthor. But for as rambunctious as this pup often is, he also gets a sweet and serene moment with Superman during the movie's mid-credits scene. Coming off all the bombastic action that Superman and Krypto went through, the scene is a tranquil moment as the superhero and his dog admire the Earth from the Moon.

If anything, "Superman" needed more quiet moments compared to all the vibrant and wacky action and comedy that it brings to the table. The mid-credits scene stands out, because it conveys so much without having to say a word while offering a heck of a view. "Superman" opens with Krypto saving the superhero and the mid-credits scene is a quiet coda reaffirming their bond. Here's to hoping that "Man of Tomorrow" also remembers to include and celebrate those quiet moments between its characters.

If there's one filmmaker in the DC lineup that knows how to put together a post-credits scene, it's James Gunn. "The Suicide Squad" is the movie that has DC's best post-credits scene to date, revealing that the antihero Peacemaker (John Cena) survived his duel with Bloodsport (Idris Elba). Earlier in the movie, the two had faced off in a crumbling building, with Peacemaker shot through the neck. The scene shows Peacemaker recovering in a hospital, supervised by Task Force X personnel, setting up the HBO Max original series "Peacemaker."

John Cena's Peacemaker had delivered a scene-stealing performance throughout "The Suicide Squad," so it was nice to see he had survived. The scene also puts the character on a redemption arc, though it's not explicitly stated in the movie. That ambiguity goes a big way in elevating the sequence, leaving the possibility for Peacemaker to go either way morally in the future. Both important and well-staged, "The Suicide Squad" has a post-credits scene that quietly laid the foundation for Gunn's entire DCU.
